Are you an artist navigating life with a disability or neurodivergence? You’re not alone—and your unique creative voice deserves a supportive community.
Finding work or sustaining a creative practice as a disabled or neurodivergent artist often requires twice the effort for half the access. Many of us face systemic barriers, sensory overwhelm, rejection, or imposter syndrome. We may also wrestle with how to value our art in a world that often sees disability as limitation, not wisdom
This peer support group is a safe, welcoming space for local artists of all disciplines who identify as disabled, chronically ill, and/or neurodivergent. Whether you’re a painter, writer, performer, or maker, this group is designed to nurture connection, mutual support, and creative growth.
Come join us August 18th at The Charlottetown Library Learning Center from 5:30-6:30pm for a community information session to launch our new peer support group.
Creative PEI has re-launched our Charlottetown Peer Support Group. On August 18th local artists met where we discussed the needs of the group and how to move forward.
We are excited to announce we will be hosting bi-weekly in person meetings (or virtual once the weather gets dicey!) at our office space in the BDC BUILDING at 119 Kent st. Located between Humble Barber and Tim Hortons. We are in suite #330 on the third floor , which you can reach by elevator or stairs. These meetings will be taking place the 1st and 3rd Tuesday of the Month and our first meeting will take place on Tuesday, September 23rd 2025.
Our facilitator is our Accessibility & Outreach Coordinator Rachel Matheson, who is thrilled to be taking on the role of Peer Mentor. Her main focus in hosting this group is building community, identifying and dismantling barriers and sharing resources, knowledge and skills. I promise to provide a safe, supportive and confidential space for artists to problem solve, skill share and build a thriving more self sustaining community of artists.
Join us Tuesday, September 23rd from 6:00pm-7:30pm for our first meeting where we will be doing introductions/ice breakers and discuss skill-sharing and forming a collective.
Please contact her if you have any further questions about peer support or have any access needs addressed rachel@creativepei.com
